Code Blue Campaign Coordinator
Prior to joining AIDS-Free World, Kaila served as a Foreign Service Officer with Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD), now Global Affairs Canada (GAC), where she covered issues ranging from the intersection of development and foreign policy; humanitarian affairs and natural disaster response; and bilateral relations with countries in Eastern and Southern Africa. In this capacity, she served as a Political/Economic Officer at Canada's Embassy to Ethiopia from 2009-2011, where she co-chaired a working group on human rights and democracy, and actively covered humanitarian and refugee affairs. Kaila also has experience negotiating humanitarian resolutions at the United Nations in New York and served as coordinator for a Head of State visit to Cape Town, South Africa.
Having recently completed a Master of Arts in Immigration and Settlement Studies at Ryerson University in Toronto on an Ontario Graduate Scholarship, she served as Research Assistant to Stephen Lewis, supporting his role as Distinguished Visiting Professor at Ryerson. In addition, she interned at the Canadian Treatment Action Council, providing policy and program support on the Newcomers and Treatment Access program, focusing on HIV and hepatitis C. Kaila also holds an Honours BA in International Studies and Political Science from Glendon College, York University, where she earned a Certificate in Bilingual Excellence.
